A village between art and nature
" Ca' de Santè place" - holidays stays
Strategic place of Valle Impero and most important town of the complex of castles Monte Arosio, the village is land of innumerable little dry stone walls that build the "fasce" destined for the cultivation of Taggia's olives .
Land of olive oil, precious product that for ages has been the main riches of these places, todays known and appreciated in all the word. Here everything is generated by following ancient rythmes, and nature rules .
In the neighbourhood of the village, little vegetable gardens take turns in the omnipresent but never uniform silver of olive trees, while higher the mediterranean scrub wood leaves the place to the pastures that culminate with the spectacular view of the mount Torre, from wich yuo can appreciate the coast and the inside mountains in all their beauty.
The tourist can have a stroll trough old paths which lead, trough brooms and rock roses, to ancient water mills .
Innumerable are the art treasures of the village, among which the old churches rich in works of art (S. Stefano with the tombstone of the sepulchre of family Colombo - 1584), ancient portals and medieval fountains, as well as details of middle age stonework .
Outline of history - Chiusanico
Land of ancient Ligurians who bravely opposed a bold defense to the advance of Roman armies ( ancient stronghold on the Mount Torre) .
With the Roman conquest, the powerful Plauto ' s family comes into possession of the territory, which was called first Plautianicum .
Afterwards Chiusanico becomes a pentagonal - plan Byzantine stronghold, hardly reachable and far away from the fearful malarial marshes .
In the Middle Age Chiusanico represents the most important town of the castles of Monte Arosio (still visible are the remains of the castle) .
The village shows today some unbroken entrance portals to the castle and several medieval stoneworks, among which the antique fountain .
To be seen is the Cristoforo Colombo ' s old house in the road with the same name .
